Who Receives Notice that I Have Filed for Bankruptcy?

Although bankruptcy filings are not advertised they are a matter of public record and anyone wanting to determine if you have filed a bankruptcy would be able to do so.  However, the only parties that receive an actual notice that you have filed for bankruptcy are your creditors, the bankruptcy court, and yourself. Your employer, friends, and family will not receive notice of your bankruptcy unless they are creditors or co-debtors.

It is not like criminal proceedings where everyone can see that you had a felony.  The legal system is gracious in trying to keep this personal matter private so that the long term effect upon the filer is as minimal as possible.  Many clients feel concerned that if they file, all of their friends and family and even their employer will find out.  In most cases, the only people who would know you have filed for Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 bankruptcy in Denver would be those people you choose to tell and of course your attorney.
