Why Credit Counseling Courses are Required for Bankruptcy in Denver

How to Assure Your Fresh Start Keeps Your Head Above Water

How to Assure Your Fresh Start Keeps Your Head Above Water

Are you filing for a Chapter 7 bankruptcy or a Chapter 13 bankruptcy with an attorney here in Denver?  If you are, you have heard from your attorney that you have to take a class or your bankruptcy won’t go through.  So, here’s another expense you’re being told you have to pay.  Sure, it’s only $50, but it feels like another little weight on your shoulders.

So, why do you have to take this course in Denver?  Basically, the thought process is that you may have your finances under order now, but with the bankruptcy judge works with your attorney because the judge insists that you have learned fiscal responsibility matters and that you don’t end up in this situation again.  Does it work?  Probably not, but there is an obligation we have to people who are wronged to try and make sure it doesn’t happen again.  Yes, your circumstances may have been extreme, but the court findsit much easier to go ahead and make everyone take the class instead of reviewing on a case by case basis.

Basically, the judge feels that is 15 minutes to hear your argument about whether you should be in the class or not is worth a lot more than the $50 everyone could pay, and there are some good skills you might learn along the way.

Try and not get too annoyed about this rule in Denver.  Pay the $50 and get the class done so you have a real opportunity to get your case through the bankruptcy court.
