Choosing a Bankruptcy Attorney Can Be a Tough Call!
Living in Denver for months or years, odds are you do not personally know a bankruptcy attorney. So, when your finances spiral out of control, who do you call and who can you trust? Hiring a bankruptcy attorney is a big decision. Bankruptcy attorneys are here to protect your assets, but are all bankruptcy attorneys the same?
What are some differentiating factors between Denver bankruptcy attorneys?
- Some bankruptcy attorneys will handle your case from cradle to grave and make sure everything is in order. Others will hire paralegals to do a lot of the grunt work so to speak to keep costs down. Both have advantages and disadvantages. If your attorney has to touch everything, odds are you’ll spend a bit more. However, if he/she doesn’t, then you may miss important details that can cost you big time down the road.
- Some bankruptcy attorneys will try to file a Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 bankruptcy regardless. Some will try and renegotiate with debtors. One group (the first), assume that you know what you want before you call while the other believes they need to advise against bankruptcy in borderline cases.
- Experience – Some have years, some just started
- Actual costs – This means the cost you were quoted, not the number that you started out with and got upsold to other packages. Some attorneys start higher (full service) and move down while others go the other way around.
